A propos de cet article

First state, with all textual errors present, in the publisher's deluxe binding Publisher & Year: Boston: James R. Osgood and Company, 1882 - Edition: First edition, first state, with the Franklin Press imprint on the copyright page and all three textual errors present: "estate" on p. 124, "do not" on p. 263, and "reigned" p. 362 (later changed to "state", "do", and "reined", respectively). In the second state of the text, printed a little later, all three errors were corrected. As with Twain's other books from the era, the novel could be ordered in several binding styles, here listed from least to most expensive: green cloth, sheep leather, and three-quarter leather (calf or morocco). Although the title page is dated 1882, the book was actually published in December of 1881, matching the copyright date. Description and Condition: Octavo, publisher's three-quarter morocco leather with marbled boards and edges, 411 pp. Edges worn and exposed. Gilt legible. Secure hinges and binding. Ownership stamps and markings in ink to the verso of the front-free endpaper and subsequent blank leaf. One additional stamp, partially erased, to the verso of the rear free endpaper. No other prior owner's markings. "When I am king they shall not have bread and shelter only, but also teachings out of books, for a full belly is little worth where the mind is starved.". …
