A propos de cet article

Hard cover, 8vo, in brown cloth, double ruled in blind to head and foot of front board, with publisher's logo also in blind, the titles blocked in gold to the spine. This is the first UK edition; copyright page notes the American edition by Macmillan issued the prior year (1924). CONDITION: Very Good. Light crimping at head and foot of spine. Light foxing to prelims and to fore edge of text block especially. Hinges in order. The first couple of chapters are interesting in that he discusses the American, Mary Baker Eddy, (1821-1910) whom he describes as a "neurotic paraplegic" from Bow, New Hampshire, who's physical and mental rehabilitation under the care of Dr. P.P. Quimby, inspired the former's career as a healer and founder of the Christian Scientist movement which was based around Boston. (Janet visited Boston in 1865.) Janet critiques the American experience of Spiritualism, including such things as seances and hypnotism, as being largely debunked by the French Academy of Science, and emerging as largely being in the province of "charlatanism." Interesting topics. With index. …
