The first four numbers of this scarce illustrated periodical, comprising No. 1, July 1896; No. 2, August and September 1896; No. 3, October 1896; and No. 4, November 1896. Original illustrated wrappers with cover design by Henry G. Fangel, printed in black and colour. Each issue 150x240mm. Some toning, handling and edgewear to wrappers, most noticeably to the November number, with occasional short tears and small losses; internally generally clean and well preserved. Many pages uncut. Overall about Very Good. Edited by Trist Wood and produced by the American Art Association of Paris, The Quartier Latin was an English-language illustrated periodical devoted to the artistic and literary life of Paris. The first number was produced in Paris, but the magazine subsequently transferred its headquarters to London. The second number explains that the move, together with the "incipient state of the magazine", had necessitated postponement of the August issue; consequently No. 2 covered both August and September, with monthly publication thereafter resumed. The periodical combines poetry, fiction, commentary and accounts of contemporary artistic life with numerous illustrations, decorative designs and advertisements. Contributors represented in these opening numbers include Frederick A. Bridgman, William Merritt Chase, Henry G. Fangel, William Theodore Peters, William Fair, Myron Barlow, Mary Kent Davey and F.
