A propos de cet article

Created as a special Edwardian photo album featuring personal snapshots taken by Queen Alexandra to raise money for charitable causes. Queen Alexandra (wife of King Edward VII) was one of the most prolific amateur royal photographers of her era. After suffering a severe bout of rheumatic fever in 1867 that left her with permanent knee damage, she turned to less mobile hobbies. In 1889, she was gifted a Kodak No. 1 handheld camera, allowing her to document her family life freely. Conceived alongside authors Hall Caine and his publisher son Ralph, the book was launched in late 1908 specifically to raise funds for over thirty charities. The project was an immense success, printing a massive run of roughly 600,000 copies through The Daily Telegraph and raising approximately £100,000 for charity. The book contains 136 reproductions. While some are standard halftones, many are premium rotogravure prints produced by the Rembrandt Intaglio Printing Company. To simulate a real family photo album, several of these plates were individually mounted directly onto the pages by hand. Rather than stiff, formal royal portraits, the pages reveal everyday moments. It features images of the Dowager Empress of Russia, the King of Denmark, royal family pets, and casual outdoor excursions. Notably, the album contains a historically famous shot depicting four generations of current and future British monarchs in one casual frame: King Edward VII, his son (the future King George V), and his young grandsons (the future Kings Edward VIII and George VI). Very good condition. Cover soiled. Spine minor bump.…
