This mint unread copy is bound in cloth covered boards with bright gilt titling to the spine, tight, white, bright and square. The unclipped dust wrapper is in mint condition. In this nostalgic, evocative book based on the notes and lineside photographs taken by the author who used a £6.00 rover ticket in 1959 on the Southern Region during the swansong of steam. from Hawkhurst to Halwill, Paddock Wood to Padstow, on branch and cross country lines now just a memory, the author travelled the routes of a Southern region that stretched from Kent to Cornwall, by the overnight Mail and newspaper train to the far west, recalling the last days of the 'middy' and riding with Victorian engines to Hayling Island in high summer.
