Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. No Jacket. Martini, Alberto (illustrateur). 1st Edition. XII, 312 p. Original pictorial black cloth front cover stamped in red and white spine stamped in red. The bottom edge is not trimmed. 4 lithographic plates by Alberto Martini with original tissue guards. Inscribed on the front inside cover to Maud Allan "from the author Jun. 18". (It is not certain this is the very famous and infamous Maud Allan, the Canadian actress/performer.) Landon's only book of (13) stories including the very famous and much anthologized Thurnley Abbey. Also The Railhead and The Gyroscope among others the latter plot involving a Juggernaut run amok in a large crowd. He wrote an impressive array of non fiction including The Opening of Tibet: An Account of Lhasa and the country and people of Central Tibet (1905) Landon being one of the first to describe the city in detail. A Friend of Kipling whose poem A Song in the Desert was written following the author's death. Overall lovely condition with light rubbing to covers, a few very lightly stains seen only obliquely at an angle in light. Penguin Encyclopedia p. 252, Bleiler, p.118, not in Reginald. Scarce with the author's inscription. Inscribed by Author(s). N° de réf. du vendeur 12023
