Some wear to the covers. Brown cloth spine. Index. Appendix. Tables. Three black and white folding maps and one full page map. On the inside cover in black ink the following has been written, "WARD ROOM MESS USS ROANOKE JOHN DOVER NEWBURYPORT MASS G BECK. The USS Roanoke was the only three turreted Monitor built during the Civil War. Originally a steam frigate, sister ship of the Merrimack which the Confederates converted to the CSS Virginia.The Roanoke was also a conversion. Four maps, three of which are folding. Solid copy.
