Hardback. Etat : Very Good. John Leech (illustrateur). Presumed First Edition. No stated date c1862. Presumed first edition. viii, 312pp. and about fifty black and white in-text illustrations by the British caricaturist and illustrator John Leech (1817-1864). Little is known about the author of this book, whose best known work is probably "Tom Fox, or the Revelations of a Detective". This work is a scarce and humorous tale told from the perspective of a parrot. The book is bound in contemporary half leather over red and black cloth covered boards with gold titling on a leather label and five thin raised bands on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear on the boards and some scuffing to the leather on the spine and around the corner tips. There is a little damage and small bit of loss to the leather on the tip of the top front corner. The contents are tight and clean with brown staining around the corners of the endpapers where colour has been taken from the leather. There is no inscription. N° de réf. du vendeur gVILitBennett01
