1st printing of the first Canadian hardcover and true first edition of the Canadian intellectual's second book published in 2018. Tan paper boards and white paper binding with white end papers and gold titles. Includes numerous illustrations, Endnotes and an Index. The first edition has gone into at least three dozen printings. A pleasing copy. No markings by a previous owner or retailer. It is tight with sharp corners. The spine ends have softened, and the exposed page edges are tanned. Rubbing and soiling to the white binding and along the top edge of the front board. A short length of the top edge of the front board has been softened/flattened, and there is a light bump to the top edge of the back board. The fore-edge of several pages have a snag. The white jacket is bright, crisp and price intact. Spine ends have softened. Shelf wear to the surface of both panels, which is mostly visible above the binding. The top edge of both flaps is not as sharp as it once was. A clinical psychologist and a former member of the faculty of Psychology at Harvard, Peterson is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Toronto. He was born and grew up on a farm in Alberta. His notoriety is drawn in part from the controversy inspired by his opposition to the attack on free speech by political correctness and the demands of the Radical Left (and legislation passed by the Government of Canada in 2017) that our language be forced to accommodate a gender neutral pronoun. Peterson argues that the debate is only nominally about sexual politics. It is in fact an attempt to use language to control freedom of expression. He writes that free speech is how civil people in a civil society with differing opinions arrive at a consensus. So, to be able to think and to express your opinions you have to risk being offensive to someone. His detractors claim he is dangerous because of the people his ideas enable, such as the Alt Right. Peterson is an authority on authoritarianism, and his teaching and his books seek to inoculate people against ideological possession. He contends that many have lost meaning in their lives and that has prompted them to gravitate toward extreme ideologies, on the left and right. In his writing and speaking engagements he encourages people to transcend dangerous and impersonal ideological identifications and start to live as true individuals in the world.…

#1 INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER
What are the most valuable things that everyone should know?
Acclaimed clinical psychologist Jordan B Peterson has influenced the modern understanding of personality, and now he has become one of the world's most popular public thinkers, with his lectures on topics from the Bible to romantic relationships to mythology drawing tens of millions of viewers. In an era of unprecedented change and polarizing politics, his frank and refreshing message about the value of individual responsibility and ancient wisdom has resonated around the world.
In this book, he provides twelve profound and practical principles for how to live a meaningful life, from setting your house in order before criticising others to comparing yourself to who you were yesterday, not someone else today. Happiness is a pointless goal, he shows us. Instead we must search for meaning, not for its own sake, but as a defence against the suffering that is intrinsic to our existence.
Drawing on vivid examples from the author's clinical practice and personal life, cutting-edge psychology and philosophy, and lessons from humanity's oldest myths and stories, 12 Rules for Life offers a deeply rewarding antidote to the chaos in our lives: eternal truths applied to our modern problems.

Description de la boutique
Operating continuously since 2004, SIGNAL BOOKS specializes in autographed fiction in collector's condition. All books are 1st printings of the 1st edition, unless otherwise noted. All dust jackets are protected in a clear, acid-free sleeve. And 85% of our book inventory is autographed by the author because SB is located near Toronto, an international hub for author events. Regarding condition, we believe in full and frank disclosure. We describe objects conservatively and thoroughly so you won't have any unpleasant surprises. And you may rely on us to take care in packing your order so it will arrive as described. If you've grown tired of buying from dealers who lack the expertise or the willingness to fully describe flaws or who are purposely vague in their descriptions, buy from us and put that aggravation behind you. We ship in sturdy boxes - NOT self-mailers or padded envelopes. And all sales regardless of purchase price are bubble-wrapped and surrounded by Styrofoam peanuts. Please browse our catalogs, including autographed first books, books signed by deceased authors, books signed and dated in the year of publication and Comic Books-Action Figures.
