First impression of the true first edition in book-form (originally lectures) with revisions and new material, adapted for the book's publication. Illustrated with a two-page black and white map showing 'Spanish & Portuguese Settlements in America (The political divisions are shown as they were at the end of the eighteenth century. The names of the Spanish Viceroyalties and Captaincies General, are written thus: CHILE (in capitals); Names of Indian peoples: MOJOS (in italics)' to the rear. ***Very good in original blue cloth-covered limp boards with black titles to spine and black titles, borders and decorative device to front board. Edges of boards slightly rubbed. Head and tail of spine slightly rubbed and bumped. Corners of boards slightly rubbed and bumped. All edges of text-block untrimmed (rough-cut, as called for). Contemporaneous owner's name, date and place in black fountain pen ink to front free endpaper: B? P? Becehouse? July 20th 1920. Buenos Aires'. Very small bookseller's blue ink stamp to bottom of title-page: 'Mitchell's Book Store, 578 Cangello, 580, Buenos Aires, The English Book Exchange.' vii prelim-pages including three-page preface by the author written August 15, 1918 to the fore. 79 text-pages plus two-page folding black and white map showing 'Spanish & Portuguese Settlements in America to the rear. Light sporadic foxing to edges of text-block. Interior pages clean. 230 x 150mm. ***'This little book contains the substance, revised and adapted for publication, of lectures given in the Lent Term, 1918, at King's College, London, under the Tooke Trust for providing lectures on economic subjects. The course of the lectures was in the first instance and endeavor to perform a war-service by drawing attention to the activity of the Germans in Latin America, and particularly to the ingenuity and tenacity of their efforts to hold their economic ground during the war, with a view to extending it after the conclusion of peace. A second object was to examine more generally the bearings of the war on those countries, and the influence of the present crises on their development and status in the world.' Conditions d'expédition
For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging materials; any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only; for the UK, our standard rate is for first class, and the priority rate includes tracked (signed for) delivery; for International sales, our standard rate is for Airmail delivery, and the priority rate is for tracked (International signed for) delivery. We would prefer that you choose the priority rate (tracked option) for higher value books of say £50 or more. Please note that we will always reduce shipping fees where appropriate e.g. for smaller (lighter) books when we accept your order. For heavier books and sets etc. we will often 'soak up' the extra cost, but on occasion, we may need to charge more than the quoted shipping fee. However, customers will always have the option to either accept or decline the revised order amount. We will also reduce the overall shipping fee for multiple orders. We will endeavour to ship all books within two business days of receiving your order.
