First printing of the true first edition - a Cherry Tree War Special, published in 1942. A paperback original. No. 164. Foreword by the editor of the Sunday Times. ***Very good in colour printed wrappers. Covers quite clean, but with some marks and creasing commensurate with age and handling [see scans]. Top and bottom corners of back wrapper torn off. Small loss at bottom corner of front wrapper. Slight split at the bottom edge of the spine and front wrapper. No reading creases to the spine. Interior pages clean, with no foxing. Paper slightly tanned [wartime paper stock]. No inscriptions. No dustwrapper as issued. ***92 pages plus a four page index. 178mm x 110mm. With four pages listing outstanding events of the period covered e.g. 'Initial German success in drive towards Moscow', 'President Roosevelt urges revision of Neutrality Act', 'H.M.S. Ark Royal torpedoed and sunk'. ***'This is the fifth Half-yearly Diary of the war, written for the "Sunday Times" and reprinted in this format the request of many readers of the paper. The diary is printed as it was written each night and not altered in the light of later events. The reader of the diary is thus able to keep his head above the details and, so far as laymen can, take a balanced view of the tremendous conflict. [Quote taken from the Foreword] ***First printing of the true first edition, a Cherry Tree War Special paperback original, published at the height of the Second World War. Uncommon and fragile. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
