A propos de cet article

xxiv+278 pages with frontispiece, tables, appendix, bibliography and index. Royal octavo (9 1/4" x 6 1/2") bound in original publisher's yellow cloth with red lettering to spine. Foreword by Irving M Zeitlin. First edition. How may the sources of poverty in the Third World nations best be explained and understood? Does a Malthusian explanation based on extremely high population growth rates and scarce and diminishing resources provide the best understanding? Analyzing an enormous amount of data on such key variables as fertility, mortality, migration, food supplies, health, housing, education, family patterns, contraception, public policy, concentrations of ownership in land, industry and commerce, as well as trends in finance, productivity, income distribution, unemployment, and the cyclical fluctuation of business, Serron demonstrates convincingly that the Marxian perspective allows a far deeper and more thorough understanding of Third world poverty than does the Malthusian perspective. Condition: Page ends dusty. Jacket spine sunned, front head edge closed tear with crease else a very good to fine copy in a better than very good jacket. …
