First edition, eighth printing, August 1942, wartime edition, in publisher?s original hardcover binding, black linen-texture cloth with paste-down title block on spine. Full dust jacket with price intact (5s. net). Dust jacket offered in archival-quality Mylar protective cover. Binding is sound and square. Clean, unmarked pages.
Condition: Light shelf wear to spine crown, heel, and corners only. No other apparent shelf wear. An exceptionally presentable copy for its age, popularity, and wartime production. Previous owner?s cursive name to front free endpaper. A lower corner bend formerly present on pages 21?22, now flattened, leaving two small residual wrinkles. No foxing or stains. Clean, light, and very good plus. Dust jacket with shelf wear to edges, chipping to spine crown and heel.
