Blue cloth with white lettering and yellow cover illustration of a pocket watch. This is an ex-library copy with tape marks to the boards, multiple school stamps to front endpaper, title page, rear endpaper. Card pocket and label to rear endpaper. Text shows finger smuding and soil, well worn pages, corner torn off of half title page. Masking tape at gutter inside both covers, tape repairs to pages 20-21. It's beat up. But still such a sweet book. Unclipped dust jacket is fairly unscathed, with some tape residue to reverse side of jacket, and a small label to spine, minor chipping to head and heel of spine. Lovely cover art and drawings thoughout by Lili Cassel. "An old-fashioned inn on the New England seacoast where strange things happen at night, a legend of buried treasure, a pair of irrepressible children, and a beautiful cat the color of orange marmalade, these are some of the ingredients of this mystery story.".
