First edition in this form; 8vo (190 x 140 mm); frontispiece, title page, full-page plates and several illustrations at head of each chapter, occasional minor spotting to the peripheral edges of a few leaves, most evident on pp212-216, though none affecting legibility of text, small mark to upper corner of p.229, plates are remarkably bright and clean; publisher's green decorative cloth gilt, all edges gilt, blocking to front board and spine, rubbing to spine ends, spotting to endpapers, corners are bumped, otherwise a very good copy indeed; [xxviii], 399pp. Christiana Hammond (1860-1900)is best remembered for being the first identifiable female illustrator of novels by Jane Austen. She adopted the more neutral first name 'Chris' to help her gain employment, and her illustrated editions of Emma and Pride and Prejudice are equally as desirable. N° de réf. du vendeur 121378
