A very scarce first edition of this speech delivered by Henry Fielding regarding the Jacobite rebellion of the same year. The first edition of the work.Very scarce. ESTC no. T89830.Endpapers and blanks renewed.Published anonymously, but authorship has since been attributed to Henry Fielding. This was the only London edition published in Fielding's lifetime, and it is probably that this is the only printing where he is likely to have approved the text. The Jacobite Rebellion, was an attempt to depose king James II. In this work, Fielding warns of the implications of the rising lead by the Roman Catholic, Charles Edward Stuart. Fielding continued to write works against Charles Edward's attempts to usurp the throne. His weekly paper 'The True Patriot: And the History of Our Own Times' continued until the defeat of the Pretender at the Battle of Culloden. It was pro-Government titles such as this which gained Fielding the position of Justice of the Peace in 1748. A contemporary source regarding one side of public opinion during the Jacobite Rebellion. In half crushed morocco with marbled boards. Externally in excellent condition with slight rubbing to joints and extremities. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with scattered spotting, heavier to the first and last few leaves. Endpapers and blanks renewed. Near Fine. N° de réf. du vendeur 1008K2
