Surviving numbers of the Beijing xinwen huibao, one of the earliest periodicals published in the Qing imperial capital. Beijing's developing print media shaped public discourse at a time when the city was the centre of political and diplomatic intrigues; Beijing News Magazine, while overlooked in the shadow of its more famous Shanghai contemporaries, is of equal importance in the history of China's print media. Operational for just the first two years of the 20th century, the magazine published and reprinted articles and government edicts on politics, the economy, and other current affairs, as well as palace memorials. Publication was supported by adverts for cultural mainstays such as the fine arts publisher Rongbaozhai. The occasional sole issue appears in commerce, but not groups of this size. Not in Frank H. H.
