The boards are bound in navy blue cloth with gilt lettering and decoration to the spine, and a dark blue-dyed top edge, as issued. The binding is tight and square. The dust jacket reproduces the original stained-glass style circular emblem designed by Tolkien himself, in red and gold on a deep blue ground. Jacket is bright and clear, and price is unclipped. The fold out map is included and in very good condition.

Internally, the pages are clean and bright with only very minor age toning. Published posthumously and edited by Christopher Tolkien with the assistance of fantasy author Guy Gavriel Kay, The Silmarillion provides the mythological foundation for the world of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It traces the creation of Eä, the Elder Days, the tragic saga of the Silmarils crafted by the Elf Fëanor, and the wars waged against Morgoth, the first Dark Lord of Middle-earth.
