Dublin & London: James Duffy & G. Routledge, 1844. Daniel O'Connell (1795-1847) was a famed orator, internationally known for his antislavery positions as well as his advocacy for Ireland. Here is a complete account of his trial for "Conspiracy and Misdemeaner." The titling continues, listing the other defendants charged for conspiracy: "John O'Connell, Esq., M.P., Thomas Steele, Esq, Thomas Matthew Ray, Esq., Charles Gavan Duffy, Esq., Rev. Thomas Therney, Rev. Peter James Tyrrell, John Gray, Esq., M.D. and Richard Barrett, Esq." This i a Very Good copy of the First Edition. A large, heavy octavo. RARE. Assumed maroon cloth binding, now faded on the spine and margins to a tan colour. the covers are dcoratively stamped. The paper titling label on the spine is rubbed but complete and perfectly readable. Clean text; xvi, 484 pages. Light toning and occasional spotting, heavy at the endpapers. Textblock remains perfectly readable, although the paper tock is stiff. The gutters have been reinforced with a linen tape. This is an ex-libris copy, but the only treatments are three labels on the front endpapers identifying Ampleforth Abbey as the institution. An important source for one of the defining moments in Ireland's quest for independence. In an archival plastic protector. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.…
