A propos de cet article

First Edition (NAP). Once listed, this will be the Only copy of this book for sale anywhere on the Internet. It's a 34 page lecture, 'The Eighth Annual Benjamin N. Cardozo Lecture Delivered Before The Association Of The Bar Of The City Of New York April 12, 1949.' Douglas begins: 'Most lawyers, by training and practice, are all too apt to turn their interests and their talents toward the finding not the creating of precedents. This lawyerly search is for moorings where clients can be safely anchored. But the search has, as well, a deeper, more personal impetus. For the lawyer himself shares the yearning for security that is common to all people everywhere. And this yearning grows as the world seems to grow more insecure.' This book, published so long ago, is in excellent condition. The covers are exceptionally clean. The gilt lettering and design on the spine nicely bright. There really isn't any conspicuous wear. There are tiny spots of light rubbing at the four corners and on the sides of the spine ends. There is a speck of discoloration a little bit above the front bottom corner, a tiny spot of rubbing just off the front bottom edge, and a small bit of color loss off the rear bottom edge. I've provided photographs of the covers. The cover edges look very good. The spine is in very solid shape. The binding is very solid from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The pages are very clean. I turned them all over. There isn't any soiling. There isn't any creasing. The first front end paper has some tanning beside the juncture. There is also a penned inscription on the page, dated in 1978. 'This book is for my wonderful son, Charles, who has always been a source of joy. Love, Mom.' There is no other writing to be found anywhere in the book. There are no markings and there are no attachments. From Wikipedia: 'William Orville Douglas was an American jurist and politician who served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Nominated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Douglas was confirmed at the age of 40, one of the youngest justices appointed to the court. His term, lasting 36 years and 211 days (1939-75), is the longest in the history of the Supreme Court. In 1975, Time magazine called Douglas 'the most doctrinaire and committed civil libertarian ever to sit on the court.'.…

Description de la boutique

Many of the books I will be selling can accurately be described as ranging from somewhat rare to very rare. In some cases there won't be another copy for sale anywhere on the Internet. There doesn't seem much point, for you or me, in offering something that so many others are already offering. Subject matter will range very widely, creating the possibility for people with very different interests to find something that excites them. As regards pricing, my primary goal is to sell the book. Most often I would expect my book to be the least expensive option on the Internet taking into account an appropriate comparison(what is the condition, is the dust jacket present, is the book signed, is it a first printing, etc.). More important than selling the book I want to make sure that you know, as much as is possible, exactly what you are getting. To that end, you'll notice that my descriptions of condition tend to be lengthy, and that there will always be photographs to help you draw your own conclusions. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about a given book. As regards international shipping, the first class or standard rates I charge are based on a package weight between 2 and 3 pounds. If the book is on the thin side there is a possibility that I can securely pack it up under 2 pounds in weight. If so, the shipping price will drop by around $11.00 or $12.00 to $26.00-27.00. Canada, which is less expensive drops to $18.00. You can contact me before purchasing a book for an estimate on the shipping cost. If you buy the book and it weighs in below 2 pounds you'll get a Reduced Shipping message and amount with the invoice and you'll see the lowered final cost before you make your payment.…
