Waser) on front wrapper. Very Good. First Edition. These two papers were issued in a single offprint. The first eight publications by Linus Pauling and Robert Corey on the alpha helix and pleated sheets of polypeptide chains appeared in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in April and May 1951. The two papers in this offprint were published not long after. Linus Pauling was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1954 "for his research into the nature of the chemical bond and its application to the elucidation of the structure of complex substances." NOTE about former owner Jurg Waser: "Born in 1916 in Zürich, Switzerland, Dr. Waser attended the University of Zürich and came to the United States in 1939 intending to spend a year on a graduate student exchange program at Caltech. The outbreak of war kept him in Pasadena, where he completed a Ph.D. in chemistry with Linus Pauling in 1944.".
