Scarce first printing. Original binding of paper covered cloth. Covers discoloured with wear and chipping to edges. Marbled page edges. Endpaper joints cracked and loose but held by the webbing. Good solid page block. Occasional patches of light foxing and a few marks to text. Complete with the colour frontis and two further colour plates. Numerous illustrations within the text. Pages 409-424 are lined leaves for notes (blank, as issued). Pencilled inscription to front free endpaper (dated 6.3.1883), inked inscription below (dated 4.4.1935). Overall condition is Fair.
