(1942). First edition. Large octavo red pictorial cloth stamped in black. With ten full-page illustrations, four of them in color, by Joe Shuster. Some wear at the spine tips, a few tiny blemishes to the boards, and an old tape repair at the gutter between pages 4 and 5, but overall, a very good, internally clean copy. Alas, no dust jacket. Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster had spent years developing the character, debuting it in Action Comics in 1938. This is the first book appearance of Superman, and in this version, the names of Superman's parents are changed slightly from the earlier comic book version, a change that caught on and remains to the present.
