A first edition, first impression, rare in its original dustwrapper. Agatha Christie gives us an informal and witty description of how you live when digging up the Past in the Middle East. For many years before WW2, she accompanied her archeologist husband, Max Mallowan on his expeditions in Iraq and Syria. There is a thread that runs through the story: it is the unchanging way of life led by the simple folk in Western Asia for more than 6000 years. Octavo, measures 20 cm x 13.5 cm x 1.5 cm. Bright plum coloured cloth with shiny gilt lettering to the spine. The brittle dustwrapper is near-complete, with wear and light paper loss at the corners and head of the spine. There is superficial scuffing especially to the edges. Price panel intact, showing 10s. 6d. net. Vestiges of old sellotape usage to bottom right front and top left rear panels. Verso of the dustwrapper has significantly more selloptape residue. Presented in a smart, newly fitted mylar cover to improve the appearance and offer protection to this collectable book.
