A propos de cet article
[Humour] First Edition, later issue. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.[6] 315 [5]. With the later title-page showing '11 Quay Street'. With frequent illustrations by Frederics. Publisher's cyan cloth with titles in gilt to spine and black to upper. Advertisements printed to endpapers. Light and occasional spotting else contents clean, cloth is lightly handled with a little bubbling and spine gently toned. Shows well. The ultimate late-Victorian satire of the Great British Holiday, involving an ill-conceived jaunt along the Thames and a host of fabulously English characters including the relentlessly Pan-like canine companion Montmorency. Adapted in many forms, and notably voiced as an audiobook by Hugh Laurie, it develops an idyllically inept vision of England still familiar today.
