No separate copyright page. xii + 419 pages. Includes introduction and list of illustrations. Features black and white woodcut illustrations by Henry J. Ford, including a frontispiece. Name and "Christmas 1900" written neatly in blue pen on the page following the list of Andrew Lang's works. The hinge of that same page shows a crack in the binding from top to bottom, exposing some of the backing linen. The back shows much milder weakness in the binding, and the foot of the spine is very securely bound. Pages are clean and bright. Please email us with questions or to request photos. Illustrated by H.J. Ford. Sunning to the boards and spine, with a surface nick and some bubbling to the rear board. Corners and spine ends are bumped and rubbed, and spine is cocked. Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. 1st Edition. First edition of this title which formed part of the Fairy Books series. Pages are xiv, [2], 337, plus one page publisher's advert. In publisher's gilt decorated cloth binding, all edges gilt, black endpapers. Externally good, slightly faded spine neatly relaid on cloth repair. Inside, some light scattered foxing but overall clean and binding sound. From the library of the late Dr Alan Gauld, an authority on Lang's work in the field of psychical research and a collector of Lang books, with his name and sticker to the endpapers. Andrew Lang (1844-1912) was a Scottish poet, novelist, literary critic, historian, and folklorist renowned for his collections of folk and fairy tales and translations of Homer.
