Smart Unclipped dust jacket with original Allen & Unwin price sticker to the front flap. Jacket has faded blues, as is often the case with this edition, but is otherwise fantastic condition. The book has a protective wrapper which I believe has been on from new. Clean and sharp burgundy cloth covers, bright gilt lettering to the spine, burgundy dyed top edge, a couple of the tiniest spots to the edge of page block, secure binding, clean and smart pages, no inscriptions, complete with fold out map. Near fine condition.

The stories are left almost exactly as they were left by the author, with commentary and notes by Christopher Tolkien.
