Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book concerns the nature of salmon, and the state of salmon fishing rivers in the early 19th century. The author argues that salmon, sea-trout, and salmon-peal are the same species, and decries the practice of obstructing salmon migration to breeding grounds with weirs and traps. Weakened salmon, unable to return to the sea, are denied a chance to recover and grow. The author advocates for a change in the law, with severe punishments for those who harm salmon in the close season or who keep them from migrating. The author suggests that the river Dart be used as a model for effective salmon conservation, and includes an abstract of evidence presented to a House of Commons committee. This book was written at a time when salmon fishing was a commercial industry, and provides historical context for the subsequent evolution of laws to protect salmon. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9781330521823_0
