Original heavy green cloth bindings with corners and spines in black leather with gilt lettering to spines. Cream coloured paper. Contents in 3 parts over two volumes: Part 1 vocabulary complete in itself is volume 1 containing 175,000 Chinese characters and 66,000 expressions. Volume 2 in 2 parts: First Clauses and phrases in Chinese and English. The Second part Tables and Lists of Terms and phrases using American and German missionary knowledge. First volume preface dated January 1, 1872 in Foochow and volume 2 Preface dated December 25, 1972 in Shanghai. Books in very good condition with volumes having sun fading spines, light wear and some repair to the spine leather in volume 1. Volume margin notes on grammar mostly in pencil. Books from the library of Dr. Charles A Muses, mathematician, cyberneticist and exoteric philosopher. Although his name does not appear here, I have the his Joseph Edkins 1864 Chinese Grammar with his name stamp. See photographs. Book Abe 1738187732543 location.
