A propos de cet article

L. O. Anderson and O. C. Heyer, engineers. Wood-Frame House Construction. Washington, D.C.: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, February 1955. Agriculture Handbook No. 73. First issue / first edition. Octavo, blue pictorial wraps printed in white, 232 pp. Illustrated throughout with technical line drawings. This first edition (February 1955) issue of the Forest Products Laboratory's landmark handbook set the standard for postwar residential construction. Designed to guide builders, engineers, and architects, it covers every aspect of house framing from site selection and foundations to roofing, insulation, plumbing, and millwork with over 200 precise illustrations. Its influence extended across decades of American building practice, establishing the canonical methods of platform framing still taught today. Condition: Very Good. Clean, bright, and unmarked interior. Minor rubbing and faint creasing to blue wraps; a small scuff near lower front edge. Staples show mild oxidation at the gutter, binding tight and square. A notably well-preserved example of this foundational technical manual. Colophon detail: 'For sale by the Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington 25, D.C.: Price 65 cents (Paper cover).' L. O. Anderson and O. C. Heyer were engineers with the U.S. Forest Products Laboratory, the Forest Service's premier research branch in Madison, Wisconsin. Their work advanced modern wood engineering techniques and residential construction standards during the postwar housing boom. The U.S. Forest Service published Agriculture Handbook No. 73 to disseminate scientifically tested, cost-effective building methods nationwide, reflecting the federal government's mid-century commitment to affordable, durable home construction.…
