An smart, first edition, work regarding the history, geography and classification of wye salmon and other fish by Arthur J. Hutton. The first edition. In the publisher's full cloth binding with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. With the half title page, colour frontispiece, and twenty-six pages of monochrome photograph plates. Collated complete. An interesting guide to the salmon of the Wye river, which is historically notable for its resuscitation as a first-class salmon river. The information in this work began from the research of Mr. Hotchkis, the chairman of the Wye Board of Conservators. After his death, it was continued by his successor, Arthur Hutton. Sections featured in this work include scale theory, geography, history, different fish species, migration, parasites and measurements. In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with some light shelf wear to the extremities. The odd light spot to the paste-downs and free endpapers. The original unclipped dust wrapper is a trifle rubbed. The front flyleaf is separated from the rest of the dust wrapper. Shelf wear and chipping to the edges. Spine and panel edges are darkened. Marks to the boards. Loss to the upper and lower spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age-toned but otherwise very bright and clean with just the odd spot. Very Good Indeed. N° de réf. du vendeur 839G8

small 4to., xiv, 160pp., tinted frontispiece of Rhayader Gwy, The Falls of the Wye in 1888, 26 pages of b/w plates, map, 11 tables, appendices, previous owner's ink neat inscription to blank front endpaper, orig. cloth gilt. A practically fine clean copy in a VG slightly chipped dustwrapper. The author traces the development and effect of the drastic and self-sacrificing measures which were taken by the Board of the Conservators for the Wye. Uncontrolled netting in the river, within the space of eight years, had reduced the average catch by over seventy per cent, and only by prohibiting netting entirely in fresh water and by controlling it through permit in tidal waters, was the Board able to conserve and to build up its stock.
