A propos de cet article

By Theodore Wood. Edited by Ernest Ingersoll. General editors Hamilton Wright Mabie and Edward Everett Hale. New York: The University Society, Inc., 1909. Young Folks' Treasury, Volume V. Octavo, gilt-decorated brown cloth with embossed black-and-green pictorial designs to front board and spine; decorative Art Nouveau endpapers; numerous black-and-white illustrations and multiple full-color plates printed on coated stock. A richly illustrated natural-history volume from the prestigious 12 volume Young Folks' Treasury series, presenting mammals, birds, reptiles, insects, and global wildlife for juvenile and family reading. The book blends contemporary (early 20th-century) zoological knowledge with accessible prose and memorable chromolithographic plates, including vivid depictions of tropical hummingbirds, apes and monkeys, and other animals. Edited by respected naturalist Ernest Ingersoll, the volume reflects the era's blend of education and domestic imagination. A snapshot of Progressive-Era children's publishing at its aesthetic peak. Condition: Very Good. Cloth clean and bright, with strong gilt to spine and front board; minor rubbing at corners and spine ends; rear board clean with only light surface wear. Hinges intact and sound. Decorative brown-and-gold illustrated endpapers well-preserved, with a few small rubbed spots at the gutter. Textblock mildly toned but clean. All chromolithographic plates present and vibrant. No writing or prior-owner marks observed. A handsome and well-preserved copy of this ornately produced natural-history volume. Theodore Wood (1855-1928) was a prolific English naturalist and writer whose clear, engaging explanations of zoology made him one of the period?s most popular authors of natural history books for young readers. Ernest Ingersoll (1852-1946), an American naturalist, writer, and explorer, contributed widely to late 19th and early 20th-century nature literature, known for balancing scientific accuracy with accessible storytelling.…
