A propos de cet article

***CONTENT: Edward Drinker Cope (1840-1897) is remembered today as much for his remarkable contributions to vertebrate paleontology and zoology as he is for his contentious rivalry with fellow paleontologist O.C. Marsh. Cope was a prolific author, with more than 1400 publications to his credit. He discovered and documented nearly a thousand new species of extinct animals: fishes, amphibians, reptiles (including dinosaurs) mammals, and birds, and made contributions to evolutionary biology. This collection includes the following publications, listed chronologically: 1) Extinct Vertebrata of the Eocene of Wyoming, etc. (1873), 105 p., 6 fossil plates; 2) On the brain of Coryphodon (1877), 5 p. and 2 plates; 3) On some new fossil Ungulata, from New Mexico (1877), 8 p.; 4) On the Canidae of the Loup Fork Epoch [Miocene, Nebraska, Wyoming] (1881), 4 p.; 5) The fauna of the Nickajack Cave [Tennessee] (1881), 6 p. and plate of cave life; 6) Review of the Rodentia of the Miocene Period of North America (1881), 26 p.; 7) The reptiles of the American Eocene [turtles, crocodiles, etc.] (1882), 15 p. and 13 text figures; and 8) The Silver Lake of Oregon and its region [expedition travelogue] (1889), 13 p. and text figure; 9) The skull of the dinosaurian Laelaps incrassatus Cope (1892), 6 p.; 10) Preliminary report on the Vertebrate Paleontology of the Llano Estacado [Triassic to Pleistocene, Texas] (1893), 87 p. and 23 plates, some folding. The reader will note that I have selected papers with varied locales and subject matter from Cope's works: mammals, reptiles and dinosaurs, fishes, and even a historic, interesting travelogue. ***CONDITION: The reports are complete and are VG to Fine. Some are in the original paper wraps, some are edge stapled, others have paper spine reinforcement. Bindings firm. The text pages are fresh, clean, and bright. The reports are individually housed in protective mylar sleeves. Two reports bear the previous ownership signature "C.C. Black", two are from the library of Donald Baird, others show previous Yale, Princeton, and Wesleyan provenance. This is a handsome, informative sampling of Cope's scarce works. International shipping will be extra, but only at my cost.…
