"It is well-known that the current prices of Stock are very fluctuating, and that it is often more advantageous to purchase one kind of Stock than another. But although this be the case; yet there are comparatively few Stock-holders who possess such a knowledge of the nature of this species of property, as to avail themselves of the advantages which these variations of price often afford. To give rules for taking advantage of these variations of price and for ascertaining their effects on the value of any given quantity of Stock bought or sold is what may be done with mathematical certainty. There is however scarcely a single work. which contains the necessary rules for accomplishing this. This circumstance and the utility of such a work. have been the occasion of the appearance of the present treatise." - preface pp.iii-iv. Rare. N° de réf. du libraire
