A propos de cet article

xii, [1], 151 p.; 23.5 cm. (University of California publications. English studies ; 28) Contents -- I. Introduction: young Edwards and the problems of his notes on "The Mind" -- II. The reconstructed manuscript -- III. Conclusion: the mind of Jonathan Edwards -- Appendix: the essays "Of being" and "Of the prejudices of imagination" -- Note on sources -- Index of notes. --- Based on text printed in Works, v. 1, 1829, p. 664-702, from the ms. The second and clearer pattern is one of a progressive intellectual development which enables the reader to follow a train of thought--a series of considerations and reconsiderations of various topics, marked by an increasing firmness and assurance--in a way that reveals how certain ideas and attitudes were formed in Edwards' mind. For these Notes were formative. Edwards returned to them time and again throughout his life, and they illuminate almost everything he was later to write.' (p. 120) Good, sewn, orig. green wrapper. Upper edge of rear cover chafed.…
