Oblong 8vo (postcard). 1 page. Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Ihr Ersuchen zeigt mir, dass ich Ihnen nicht fremd bin. Ich liebe die grossen Worte nicht, bin für natürliche Einfachheit und dieser will ich auch in meiner Kunst Ausdruck geben. Das Schaffen ist meine Freude [.]". - An impressionist artist, Pottner is best known for his depictions of animals, his oeuvre including a collection of 79 bird figurines created in 1911, as well as paintings, woodcuts, lithographs and ceramics inspired by his riverside property in Werder an der Havel near Berlin. - Some small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application. N° de réf. du vendeur 55131
