A propos de cet article
Unusual travelling scribe's set from Ottoman-era Sarajevo, comprising divit (pen case), 2 reed pens, 46 nibs by different manufacturers (including by Heintze & Blanckertz, the first German manufacturer of dip pens, founded in 1842 in Oranienburg near Berlin), ink dryer, and wax / candle snuffer scissors. DIVIT: the pen case of oblong form with attached bombe-shaped inkwell, both with hinged lids, engraved with floral and star designs. 23 x 6 x 4cm at the widest points. Estimated mid to late 19th century. Appears to have been quite heavily used with some small dents, and repair to inkwell. WOODEN INK DRYER: Made of 3 pieces including the handle and top panel (both ornately decorated) and the wooden rocker ("Sarajevo" carved to one side), all attached via the screw handle. 16 x 7 x 7cm. Good condition with a few small chips, and faded ink stains to the base of the rocker. PAIR OF WAX SCISSORS: Possibly brass or iron, crudely decorated, for trimming old fashioned candle wicks in pressing and shaping wax for seals. 14 x 5 x 4cm (widest points). Well used. 2 REED PENS: divit contains two reed pen shafts, 14 and 17cm, to which the nibs would have been attached. Used. 46 NIBS: Me-Ga, Zagreb (17 nibs); L & C Hardtmuth (12); Heintze & Blanckertz (4): 3½, 3½, 1150, 8¼; Iris Pen (3); F. Soennecken Rundschrift, Bonn (2): 2½, 3; Intramed (2); Massag Linol (2); Vera (1); Brause Christian IX (1); Rundschriftfeder Carl Kuhn & Co, Wien, Austria (1); Iroszegyar (1). All with varying signs of use.
