A propos de cet article

An archive of over 30 pieces of Ralph Records promotional materials including catalogs, comics, posters, flyers, mailers, a black and white compilation photograph of The Residents, a Tuxedomoon record label, Yello, the MX-80 Sound, Renaldo and The Loaf, Fred Frith, Big City Orchestra, and other related materials, 1980-1989. An impressive archive including material from the Residents' "The Mole Show" tour, and Ralph Records during the label's final decade in operation, with an ever-growing catalog of avant-garde and alternative music. Likely assembled by a record store owner or employee in the Washington DC area, with many items addressed to the area and promoting local performances, with several items with annotations regarding orders on the versos written by Ralph Records' employees. Detailed inventory and additional images available on request. Serious purchase inquiries only please. The archive contains: Eleven mail order catalogs: Two copies of "Catalog Two: Volume Two, September 1983" (one with an attached Ralph Records coupon from a Washington DC performance of "The Residents Mole Show"), "September 1985, Buy Or Die, Number Eleven," "Ralph Records, Christmas 1985," "The Big Bubble, Buy Or Die" from February 12, 1986, "April 1986, Buy Or Die, Number Twelve," "Buy Or Die Mini" from "Dec 86 - Jan 87," "Buy Or Die, Number 14, March 1987," two copies of "Buy Or Die #14 1/2, November 1987" with the Snakefinger memorial cover, and "Ralph Records / T.E.C. Tones, Fall/Winter Catalog 7.1" from 1989. Three of "The Residents Mole Show" related comics: "The Comix of Two Cities" (First Edition) by Matt Howarth published in 1982, and "Dax Komix Der Zwei Städte" (Limited Edition) by Matt Howarth and D.M. Kister, and "The Comix of Two Cities No. 2" (First Edition) by Matt Howarth, both published in 1983. Three posters: The Residents at the Golden Gate Bridge (black and white, version with the narrow black border), circa 1979. A black and goldenrod Yello poster, promoting their Ralph Records albums "Claro Que Si" and "Solid Pleasure," circa 1981. And a red, yellow, and black MX80 Sound poster, promoting their Ralph Records albums "Out of the Tunnel" and "Crowd Control," circa 1981. Five mailers and flyers: The Residents "Mole Show" (circa 1983), two for Snakefinger's Vestal Virgins (one circa 1986 and one circa 1987), the Big City Orchestra (circa 1988), and Uncle Willie's Eyeball Buddies (UWEB) (circa 1988). Also included in the archive is a circa 1982 black and white "The Residents' Tenth Anniversary!" compilation photograph. A Tuxedomoon "Half-Mute" side one record album label. A print out of eight logo or button images of Ralph Records bands, releases, and logo. And several Xerographically reproduced images and articles including: "The Complete Residents Handbook" (two copies, circa 1983), Lou Stathis' article "Muzick" on the Residents from the August 1980 issue of Heavy Metal magazine, and a collage of Ralph Record images around an October 25, 1984 Rolling Stone magazine article "A Guide To The Best Rock Videos," highlighting a review of "Ralph Records Video Volume 1." A copy of The Record Collector's Quartery, "Issue #10," 1983, which includes an article "Inside: The Residents" and a centerfold fold-out "The Residents 1984" calendar. Lastly, included is a production credit handout for the historic performance of "The Residents Mole Show" at the New Music America Festival in Washington DC on October 7, 1983 at the National Building Museum. 11 Catalogs, 7 x 8.4 inches to 17.5 x 22.75 inches. nine Near Fine, two Very Good, with the front wrappers detached and rear wrapper missing, likely from placing a mail order. 3 Posters, 10.75 x 23.5 inches to 28 x 22 inches.
