First Edition Washington's Political Legacies (1800) in original full leather binding. Perfect candidate for restoration. David Austin Bassett (1816-1880) was born in Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts. He was the son of David Bassett (1793-1866) and Rhoda Austin. David Austin Bassett married Naomi Wallace in 1840, and together, they had five children, including Naomi Josephine Bassett. Naomi, most likely, received this work upon her father's death in 1880. Naomi Josephine Bassett-Grosvenor (1849-1934) was also born in Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts. She married Dr. Lemuel Conant Grosvenor (1832-1914) in 1877 & they had three children together: Gertrude Naomi Grosvenor (1879-1883), Lucy E. Grosvenor (1882-1956), and Inez Octavia Grosvenor (1884-1886) - only one of their children lived to adulthood. The father-daughter duo are also related to Charles Jarvis Hunt Bassett (1814-1891), whose father was Anselm Bassett (1784-1863). Today, in Taunton, Massachusetts, the C.J.H. Bassett House still stands at 20 Chestnut Street. The house was originally built for Charles Jarvis Hunt in 1851, as the president of the Taunton Bank. The Bassett family lineage in Massachusetts began with William Bassett (c. 1590-1667), an English artisan, emigrating to North America. Bassett came to Plymouth Colony on the ship Fortune in November, 1621. During his long life, he was involved in many colony government activities and business ventures, being one of the original members of the "Purchaser" investment group of 1626. In his later years he described himself as a blacksmith. RAREA1800FOPX - 03/24 - HK1365 FORN-TUB-0073-BB-2504-HKREV712.
