Only one affects text, and barely so, on an index page. In the pictorial dust jacket,age-toned and price-clipped, that has a few old tape repairs on the verso, and with chips at head and tail of spine. The poignant reminiscences of the eminent scholar and statesman, which provide a rich, comprehensive assessment of the state of African-American life in his era, 1871-1938. Includes details on the effort to wrest legislative control of lynching from Southern states by enacting Federal laws outlawing the practice. Johnson notes that during his tenure at the NAACP, beginning 1919, lynchings were not as numerous as in previous years, but that the increasing barbarous manner was that of inhuman savagery.
