Fine folding double-hemisphere celestial map, double-hemisphere maps of the world, Europe, Asia, Africa, and America, and 46 mpas of scientific instruments, scientific diagrams, and other regional maps, including 11 folding, one engraved vignette head-piece (some minor worming). Original grey paper wrappers; slightly worn with minor loss to the backstrip. Fourth edition, and AN ATTRACTIVE COPY IN ORIGINAL WRAPPERS first published with fewer maps and plates in 1699. Bion was a successful manufacturer of scientific instruments and globes and "published three important treatises on globes and cosmography, on astrolabes, and on precision instruments in general. Paris : Jacques Guerin and [Jean Luc] Nyon fils, Nicolas Bion (ca. 1652-1733) was a French cosmographer and maker of mathematical and astronomical instruments, appointed Ingenieur du Roi pour les instruments de mathematiques (king?s engineer for mathematical instruments) to Louis XIV. The Usage de Globes was his most important publication, an important text-book first published in 1699, and much reprinted over the course of the 18th century, with this sixth edition appearing in 1751. The maps include the world, four continents, regional maps of Europe and engravings of celestial and terrestrial globes.
