A propos de cet article

• Signed and numbered limited edition, copy 84 of 100 — signed by Robert Andrew Parker in black ink on the title page, with the edition number written in the artist's own hand. Edition size 100 is a standard small-run artist's-book limitation: large enough to reach institutional collectors and private buyers, small enough to retain scarcity.• Major institutional footprint for the artist: permanent-collection holdings at MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Library of Congress, and the Morgan Library & Museum; Washington University in St. Louis holds the dedicated Robert Andrew Parker Collection in Special Collections. Parker is not a household name but is a serious and institutionally-validated artist whose works in small edition sizes accession to special-collections libraries.Signed limited-edition artist's book: from Adenoids to Zebu, Alphabetic Drawings by Robert Andrew Parker, copy 84 of an edition of 100, signed and numbered by the artist on the title page. Parker (American, b. 1927) is one of the most institutionally-collected American draughtsman-illustrators of the second half of the 20th century — permanent-collection holdings at MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum, the Whitney, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Library of Congress, and the Morgan Library, among others. He was Academy Award-nominated as the hand-double for Kirk Douglas's painting sequences in Lust for Life (1956), won a Caldecott Honor in 1970, and has produced editorial work for The New Yorker, Sports Illustrated, and many others over a career now spanning more than seven decades. Alphabet books are a recurring formal device across Parker's practice; documented alphabet variants include hand-colored-etching editions like The Airman's Alphabet (Connecticut Graphic Arts Center, 2001, Auden text, edition of 14+proofs, dealer retail $5,500) and An Alphabet: Annapurna to Zouave (Paul Thiebaud Gallery, 2009, edition of 5). This copy is the offset-printed trade-paperback expression of the same alphabet-as-constraint project — a distinct tier from the etching editions, offered in a signed/numbered limitation of 100 for the wider Parker-collector market. Each interior page presents one letter of the alphabet with a Parker watercolor-and-ink drawing on a colored field, manuscript caption, and red printed label. The A-page shows an anatomical cross-section of the adenoids on a yellow field — setting the tone immediately that this is an adult artist's book using alphabetic structure to organize 26 drawings of whatever catches Parker's interest, not a children's primer. Cream wrapper, offset-printed color plates. Signed and numbered in black ink by Parker on the title page: 'Robert Andrew Parker / 84/100.' Very good condition: cover shows light surface soiling, interior bright and clean, signature and numbering sharp. Stapled or perfect-bound soft cover — to be confirmed from spine photo.…

Description de la boutique

A small personal library finding new shelves: fine-press limited editions, antiquarian leather-and-cloth, signed firsts, and the occasional 19th-century oddity. I describe condition the way I'd want one described to me — gilt rub, bumped corners, foxing where it's there — and I pack like the next owner cares as much as I do. Cambridge, Massachusetts; smoke-free.
