What does it take to create a successful nonprofit organization? This memoir recounts the author's experience as the second Executive Director of the Alice Ferguson Foundation, bringing together community, staff, and board, to create a center for learning about family farming and the environment.
You'll be enchanted by the story of Alice's adventures, the good times at Hard Bargain Farm and what followed. With wisdom and heart, Kay tells the tale of the foundation's infancy, rocky childhood, and transformation into today's Alice Ferguson Foundation.
Learn how the foundation worked in partnership with the National Park Service, Mount Vernon, local school systems, and a dedicated community to promote environmental education across the region. Today the Hard Bargain Farm Environmental Center hosts thousands of school children and hundreds of teachers, coordinates regional park/school/nonprofit partnerships, and inspires legions of volunteers to protect our earth.
