9.25" 11.25", 162 pp. Twelve [12] plates and the frontispiece tipped on to un-numbered, brown card stock with transluscent page protector. More than a dozen B&W text illustrations throughout. A facsimile recreation of the 1907 edition by Heinemann and Doubleday. It represents the exact moment the original 1865 British copyright on Alice expired, allowing publishers other than Macmillan (the original publisher) to commission new artwork. Heinemann and Doubleday seized this opportunity to create what became the ultimate visual reinterpretation of the story, hiring the undisputed king of the "Golden Age of Illustration": Arthur Rackham. "Just about as much right", said the Duchess, "as pigs have to fly." (p 115). The book is in Fine condition, near as new, originally purchased for shelf value, never read. All edges gilt. Slipcase in beige cloth, complementing the leather, with gilt titling on the front, small 1/2" stray pencil mark on the rear, Otherwise in Fine condition. Ivory leather with five raised bands. Titling and spine rule in gilt. Cover has an emblematic illustration of dueling dragons, emblazoned in gilt on the cover. Graphic endpapers, satin ribbon bookmark still tucked in.
