A propos de cet article

'Of This Edition Two Hundred Copies Have Been Printed At The Plimpton Press. This Copy Is Number 9.' This is a very unique book, a wonderful Association Copy. The book is signed and inscribed (see photo) by the author, Richard Aldrich, who was the music critic for The New York Times between 1902 and 1923, to J.A. (John Alexander) Fuller Maitland who was 'an influential British music critic and scholar from the 1880s to the 1920s.' The book also has Mr. Maitland's interesting bookplate affixed to the front inside cover. Above it, on the white background of the inside cover, there are handful of speck-sized black pen marks which probably got transferred over from the black ink (when it was first applied) of the inscription on the facing front end paper. It's not much of anything, but I thought I'd mention it. At the very bottom corner of the front inside cover there is also a very tiny black label which I'm using a magnifying glass to make out the lettering on. It says, in gold lettering,' Harold Reeves Books & Music London, England.' Those two attachments are the only ones to be found anywhere in the book. However, I did find something else as I scrolled through the pages to examine their condition. Between pages 48 and 49 there is a typed letter with the author's penned signature at the bottom. It is dated March 21, 1932 and reads: 'Dear Mr. Fuller Maitland: Look again! There are plenty of lacunae in that catalogue of mine, but the absence of your Brahms book doesn't make one of them. Look on page 138, second line. Also please insert somewhere in your copy the enclosed "addendum" slip; either put it in the "front matter" or to face page 49. The omission of any mention of this book, one of my most prized rarities, was one of those unaccountable tragedies that occur. Yours sincerely, Richard Eldridge.' I'm placing the Addendum back between pages 48 and 49. It's in perfect condition. The title of the prized rarity is Mersenne by F. Martin. His book was published in MDCXXXVIII. I'm jealous. The book of his that Mr. Maitland missed was simply titled Brahms. It was published by John Lane Co. in 1911. A short description of it can indeed be found on page 138. Happily, the condition of the book for sale is excellent. You can see the dark blue covers in the photos provided. They are exceptionally clean. The gilt lettering on the spine is very bright and unworn. There is a light and thin vertical crease on the spine. The corners of the covers are in terrific condition. So are the six cover edges. The page edges are very clean. The top page edge is an even darker blue than the covers. The book is perfectly square and very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout. There are no binding issues. The cloth at the top of the spine is nicely tight with the text block. The pages are also exceptionally clean. In scrolling through I don't think I saw one instance of soiling. There is a tiny tip of the bottom corner light crease on the pages of the Index at the end of the book. Other than that, I didn't see any creasing. There are no markings in the book. And with the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere.…

Description de la boutique

Many of the books I will be selling can accurately be described as ranging from somewhat rare to very rare. In some cases there won't be another copy for sale anywhere on the Internet. There doesn't seem much point, for you or me, in offering something that so many others are already offering. Subject matter will range very widely, creating the possibility for people with very different interests to find something that excites them. As regards pricing, my primary goal is to sell the book. Most often I would expect my book to be the least expensive option on the Internet taking into account an appropriate comparison(what is the condition, is the dust jacket present, is the book signed, is it a first printing, etc.). More important than selling the book I want to make sure that you know, as much as is possible, exactly what you are getting. To that end, you'll notice that my descriptions of condition tend to be lengthy, and that there will always be photographs to help you draw your own conclusions. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about a given book. As regards international shipping, the first class or standard rates I charge are based on a package weight between 2 and 3 pounds. If the book is on the thin side there is a possibility that I can securely pack it up under 2 pounds in weight. If so, the shipping price will drop by around $11.00 or $12.00 to $26.00-27.00. Canada, which is less expensive drops to $18.00. You can contact me before purchasing a book for an estimate on the shipping cost. If you buy the book and it weighs in below 2 pounds you'll get a Reduced Shipping message and amount with the invoice and you'll see the lowered final cost before you make your payment.…
