A propos de cet article

31 x 25cm. Hardcover in blue boards, various pagination. Contains Vol. 15, August 1921, Nos. 1-6 (p.1-144); Vol. 16, Feb 1922, Nos. 1-5 (pp 1-121); and an odd issue from Vol. 19, October 1923, No. 3 (pp 1-24). Bound without the original magazine covers, but each issue is preceded by a tipped-in cropped plate from the cover, pasted on plain art paper. An eclectic journal exploiting latest developments in colour printing, with vivid artworks accompanying prose, essays, poems, and book reviews. Art Deco and modern styles merge with symbolist traditions, but Colour's remit was to "keep itself high above 'movements' in art". This volume covers the opening of the first ever Colour Magazine Exhibition held at New Bond Street's Grosvenor Galleries from March to April 1922, billed as "the most representative exhibition of the work of contemporary British Artists which has ever taken place in London". Contributions by many pseudonymous writers such as Parry Truscott (under which is pencilled "Abbie Hargrave", whose contributions recur sporadically throughout), B. Boltanskye, Theo Anderson, along with writers linked to women's suffrage such as Evelyne Close, Irene Tillard, etc. and many others including J. Griffyth Fairfax, Theodore Herman van Beek, Amelia Defries, Arthur L. Salmon, The Countess of Cromartie, Thomas Moult, Richard Hughes, Gwen John, Louis Golding, Sidney Southgate, Dorothy Easton, William Orpen, Charles Marriott, Frederick Le Gros Clark, Edgell Rickword, Charles Greaves, Ethel Talbot, Edward Liveing, Archer Grimsdell, George Manning-Sanders, etc. Features artworks by a wide range of artists - woodcut artists such as Cyril Saunders Spackman, Ethelbert White, Edoardo Del Niri, Kathleen Hale, etc. along with painters and sculptors including Laura Knight, C. R. W. Nevinson, Edmondo Lucchesi, Frank Brangwyn, Harry Fidler, Fernand Khnopff, Take Sato, Howard Somerville, H S Tuke, Philip Naviasky, Benvenuto Maria Disertori, Gerald Brockhurst, Jaroslav Hnevkovsky, Dorothea Sharp, Augustus John, Fairlie Harmar, Vivian Forbes, Bernard Meninsky, Glyn Philpot, John Collard, Maurice Fromkes, T.
