On the one hand, it appears from the geographical distribution of the monuments related to this cult that the provinces along the Rhine and the Danube represented most important stretches of its western spreads. On the other hand, chronological examinations in these territories have tried to expose apart from one single exception inscriptions that would have come into existence after the age of the Severi, more precisely after the year 235. In Italy, in the city of Rome and in North Africa, however, the monuments to be dated to the midde or the second half of the 3rd century are not infrequent.4 Earlier investigators either omitted to deal in merit with this phase of the history of the cult, or due to false dating of certain relics they could not obtain a clear insight in this question. The finds of the sanctuaries of the cult excavated in these territories raise a similarly unclarified problem. A great part of these came to light in situ, while in other cases the finds were exposed from the interior or the neighbourhood of the sanctuaries where they had been hidden.
