Doubleday [Published date: 1965]. Hard cover (small board book) 32 pp. Stated First Edition. Inscribed (personalized) and signed by May T. Watts on front free end paper and inscribed and singed by "May" on small "blue heron" book sticker on front paste down. In acceptable condition. Small illustrated paper over boards have bumping to edges and corners of cover and some nicking to the paper over the corner tips and top and bottom of spine. Light overall scuffing and soiling to cover as well. String binding is loose (string is broken) and beginning to pull apart from boards, but is still attached. Pages are lightly aged but otherwise unmarked. NOT Ex-Library. No remainder marks. Lovely illustrations by Michael Bevans. [From back cover] May Theilgaard Watts was educated at the University of Chicago, and now lives with her family in Naperville, Illinois. For years she served as Naturalist at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois, and she has received theMargaret Douglas Award of the Garden Club of America for achievement in conservation education. Mrs. Watts is the author of several books and numerous articles on trees. Michael Bevans, who has illustrated a number of children's books, is also author and illustrator of Reptiles and Amphibians and he Book of Seashells. His paintings of trees and animals have been featured in Life magazine, and he did identification cards for the Audubon Society. THE DOUBLEDAY FIRST GUIDES? a natural history identification series?are designed to introduce the potential nature lover to the world around him. The illustrations, all in color, on every page identify the subjects visually, and the sample, factual text provides basic information that will stimulate further interest. Identification guide to 25 common North American trees from the Doubleday First Guides natural history series, designed for field use by young naturalists. Watts, longtime Naturalist at the Morton Arboretum and author of Reading the Landscape of America, received the Garden Club of America's Margaret Douglas Award for achievement in conservation education.
