Hardcover. Etat : Near Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. 1st Edition. Inscribed First Edition, First Printing --with an interesting association -- of this collection of lectures by U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan on the relationship between the structure and character of American families and the nation's civic culture. Represents important ideas in Moynihan's intellectual and political life as the disintegration of the family in the late half of the 20th century was an issue that he identified as central domestic policy. This copy has an interesting association as it's inscribed by Moynihan to a U.S. Senate colleague, Sen. Tom Harkrin of Iowa. Inscribed and dated by Daniel Moynihan "For Tom Harkn with good regards. Dan" on the front endpaper. 207 pages. The book itself shows no sign of previous use but has an odd and rather dramatic binder's error. The covers were reversed when they received the interior pages. Housed in the dust jacket and flipping to the title page and then to the text all appears perfectly normal. However, peeking beneath the front cover of the jacket one sees the isbn number (upside) at the top of the front cover and on spine the author's name at bottom and the publisher's name is at the top. As this isn't a postage stamp or a baseball card, we certainly won't suggest the error enhances the value. How much of a problem is it? With the dust jacket in place, the appearance or readability isn't, in our opinion, noticeably degraded. Without the error, we would have assigned a Fine grade. The dust jacket has light edge wear.
