A propos de cet article

Four pages, folio, closed tears on fold marks, staining but text clear and complete. SEE IMAGES of pp.1 and 3 [signature page] (pages didn't quite fit into the scanner so inch or so not imaged). It describes a transaction involving Old South Sea Annuities (£580), and £3351, 5s.2d "in the books of Bank of England" in the names of Sir George Cayley (father of the pioneer of flight) and Thomas Cayley, followed by an explanation of the trust involving John Rodolph de Valtravers and others, then the consequence of the death of George Cayley, entitlement of de Valtravers followed by legalese explanation of transactions, etc. The document is signed "J. Rodk. de Valltravers" with seals, certification by a notary (in Hamburgh where de Valltravers lives, with stamp, and with certification by Charles Henry Fraser, Minister Plenipotentiary to the Circle of Lower Saxony. Notes: A. "Johann Rodolph de Valltravers (1723–c. 1815) was a Swiss intellectual, diplomat, and naturalized British fellow who served as a prominent scientific intermediary and information broker in 18th-century Europe. While he left behind few original scientific works or publications, he was a crucial node in the network of Enlightenment knowledge transfer. His connection to the legendary Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus (1707–1778) is preserved through their detailed historical correspondence:The Linnaean Network: Valltravers regularly wrote letters to Linnaeus (dating through the 1760s and 1770s) from locations like London and Stockholm. He acted as a bridge between British, Swiss, and Scandinavian scientific communities, helping circulate newly discovered botanical and mineral specimens.A Global Connector: Beyond Linnaeus, Valltravers maintained correspondence and coordinated intellectual exchanges with other massive figures of the era, including Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Pennant, and various Royal Societies across Europe." [AiI]; B. "The 4th Baronet, Sir George Cayley (c. 1717–1791): The grandfather of the aviator bore the exact same name. His family—like many members of the British upper class and aristocracy at the time—held investments and estates that were heavily influenced by the financial shifts of the Georgian era, including the aftermath of the South Sea Bubble. The Bubble Investment: Historical records of the South Sea Company note several prominent investors and officials named Cayley (including Cornelius Cayley and William Cayley). The Cayley family's wealth and landholdings in Yorkshire were closely tied to the shifting tides of British government stock and South Sea annuities during the 18th century."[AI].…
